Welcoming Mayor Jon Raven to Saltair’s Crestmead Factory

Saltair was delighted to welcome Logan Mayor Jon Raven to our Crestmead manufacturing facility, providing an opportunity to showcase our operations and discuss the future of construction, local industry and community growth in the City of Logan.

For our team, the visit was more than a formal engagement, it was a chance to engage with a leader who brings both civic responsibility and real, on-the-tools construction industry experience to the conversation.
A Mayor with Real Industry Experience

What stood out immediately was Mayor Raven’s practical understanding of construction. With a background that includes running his own asbestos removal and demolition business, he is no stranger to the realities of job sites, safety requirements and project delivery pressures.

That perspective shaped the discussions throughout the visit. Conversations weren’t abstract or purely policy-driven, they were grounded in the day-to-day realities of building, compliance and maintaining safe, modern infrastructure that meets the needs of a growing region.

Talking About the Future of Construction in Logan

During the visit, we explored how construction is evolving across Logan and South East Queensland, and how companies like Saltair can support that growth.

Key themes included:

  • The importance of safe, high-quality infrastructure as the city grows
  • The role of modern construction methods in delivering projects efficiently
  • How industrial precincts like Crestmead contribute to local jobs and capability
  • The need to balance growth with sustainability and long-term resilience

We also discussed how offsite and modular-style building approaches can help reduce disruption, improve consistency and support faster delivery of projects, particularly in sectors like social infrastructure, tourism and community facilities.

Building Strong Connections with Local Business

Another highlight of the visit was Mayor Raven’s clear enthusiasm for connecting with local businesses. He spoke about the importance of:

  • Open communication between Council and industry
  • Supporting local capability and employment
  • Ensuring procurement and planning processes enable collaboration
  • Keeping decision-making close to the communities it affects

For Saltair, this alignment is significant. We are deeply committed to operating as a long-term partner within Logan, not just as a manufacturer, but as an employer, collaborator and contributor to the broader economic ecosystem.

Shared Vision for Logan’s Future

Throughout the visit, Mayor Raven’s vision for Logan’s future came through strongly. His focus extended well beyond short-term project cycles, touching on:

  • Attracting and retaining investment in the region
  • Supporting sustainable, well-planned development
  • Ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with population and industry growth
  • Embedding environment-forward thinking into how the city evolves

These priorities resonate with Saltair’s own approach to design and delivery - where efficiency, quality and long-term outcomes are equally important.

Strengthening Community Through Partnership

At its heart, the visit reinforced a simple but important idea: strong communities and thriving local businesses are built on collaboration. When Council, industry and the community work together, regions like Logan are better positioned to manage growth, embrace innovation and create opportunities.

We are grateful to Mayor Jon Raven for taking the time to visit our Crestmead facility, engage with our team and share his perspective on where Logan is heading. Saltair looks forward to staying actively involved in the city’s journey - continuing to invest locally, support jobs and contribute to the future that’s being built here in Logan.
